Sleeve Notes

This album was recorded at the Kestrel Hotel, Balerno (the home of Balerno Folk Club) on the 23rd June 1988. The village of Balerno lies at the foot of the Pentland Hills, south-west of Edinburgh. There has been a conscious effort during editing, not to be carried away on the wings of "crack", as we are aware that spontaneous humour wears a bit thin after a couple of listenings, but......you can't keep a good audience down and the "attack" of the songs cannot be achieved (by us at least) in studio recordings. We chanced on the hottest evening of summer for the recording and with what amounted to 200 living, breathing storage heaters packed into the club, the atmosphere was steamy, verging on "sauna" — hence the album title, "Listen to the Heat"!
