Sleeve Notes
It is estimated that in thirty year singing career, Alex Campbell probably recorded more than a hundred albums. Many of these were one-off affairs, often recorded live (he is known to have knocked off entire LPs in a single afternoon-everything cut in one take) . However, its widely accepted that the cream of his recorded output was cut for the trasatlantic label during the mid-60s, when Capbell himself was at the peak of his powers as a writer and performer. This compilation draws together every side which Alex recorded for Transatlantic (these were originally spread out across three LPs), Including two versions of perhaps his best known song, "Been On The Road So Long", one featuring the back-up vocals of a very young Sandy Denny.
Notes
[7] The My Old Gibson Guitar Transatlantic EP is not in my collection, information on these tracks comes from Reinhard Zierke's Mainly Norfolk site.
[8] Reinhard Zierke also cites Alex Campbell and His Friends as the source for this track — the only non-Transatlantic label track included in this anthology.
